KIAMA JUNIOR RUGBY 2011 PRESENTATION DAY
The Wallabies couldn’t bring home the trophy but on Sunday night ( 16th Oct ) plenty of Kiama Junior Rugby players took home trophies to mark their season’s successes.
In front of a packed Pavillion and even a great former Wallaby statesman, Terry Curley, the club marked a season in which they had more players than ever before with 6 teams playing in the semi final series ( see above ) and the Under 12s taking out the Illawarra District Premiership.
The club’s top awards were presented to :
Trevor Nugara who was voted Club Person of the Year,
Ben Wade who took out the Senior Player of the Year Award, and
Charlie Burnett who won the William Spence Memorial Pathways Player of the Year
Trevor, who has been associated with the club for five years, does not have a son playing rugby this season yet still volunteered as a co-coach for the Under 10s, a committee member and Game Day Controller.“In everything he does Trevor demonstrates a passion and an enthusiasm for being involved and has been instrumental in ensuring the club has had another successful season on and off the field.”
Ben Wade, who was also awarded the Player of the Year Award last year, has played all his rugby with Kiama and was considered this year to be “a standout player”. “Ben led from the front with a very mature effort as captain and leading point scorer – Ben set the benchmark with his lion-hearted efforts every game,” said coach Al Marsden.
Charlie, who joined the club’s inaugural Under 8s team in 2007, has represented the club at Illawarra level for three years, played in this year’s South Coast PSSA team and the Kiama Under 12s Premiership side.“Whether in his favoured position as a hard and straight running centre or as an explosive back row forward Charlie can be relied upon to give a 100% total commitment in every game,” said his coach, Peter Dempsey.

Can I play my own age ?

Illawarra Rugby has a competition for all ages U8 - U17 and Kiama is fielding teams in the following ages :
U8, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U17

Note : Any representative player must be registered with a club ( Illawarra rep teams compete against other districts in all ages from U10 to U18 ) and we encourage any player interested to try out.

Team Numbers and Registration

Junior Referees Encouraged

All home games are refereed by our own referees. This year we have allocated the annual donation we receive from “the blowhards” for the further development of our junior referees. This generous donation allows us to continue to provide all training and clothing free of charge as well as payment on the day for each home game. All junior players, and those parents who would like to get more involved in our home games, are encouraged to participate. You only have to referee our home games ( unless you want to do more for another club ) and only when you are available. Referee coaching and supervision is provided at all home games.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ON REFEREEING
CONTACT : Gloria Vann ( Phone 42571017 , or talk to your coach/manager )

Your Committee Needs Your Help

There are lots of ways you can help the club without having to be on the Committee.
More and more people have great cameras. That means more and more great photos are being taken of our rugby players. This season, if you take good photos of your son or other Kiama players, please email them through or bring them on a thumb drive to training to be downloaded on the spot. If your photo appears in the Yearbook your name will also. Email to elizabeth@burnetttrees.com.au
Also, the committee are keen to hear from anyone who can help the club with organization for home games (only 7 each season).
We would particularly love someone to take care of the canteen coordination (not manning it, just making sure it runs well).
SPEAK TO ANY OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS IF YOU WILL BE AT HOME GAMES AND ARE HAPPY TO HELP :
Hamish East Richard Asquith
Len Blackmore Nicole Dillon
Elizabeth (Bee) Burnett Elizabeth Skorulis
Brenda Edwards Trevor Nugara
Warwick Shanks

Sponsorship Still Available

SUPPORT AND SPONSORSHIP STILL NEEDED
If you are in business or work for someone in business there is still time to become a 2011 Kiama Junior Rugby Supporter or Sponsor. For only $300 supporters are able to help boost the club while promoting their business through club publications. Supporters are invited to the club Season Launch in April and other events throughout the year. The big drawcard of course is the free coffee and bacon and egg roll at each home game!
For the first time, in 2011 the club is also able to offer sponsorship packages which offer promotion on field equipment and signage at home games. For $1000 you receive all that supporters enjoy plus tremendous name recognition and business promotion. We will work with your business to give you the best exposure possible. With only five sponsors per year and preference given to previous sponsors this first year is the one to lock in.
